Itamaraty Palace
« The Foreign Ministry building, designed by Oscar Niemeyer (1907 – 2012) with landscaping by Roberto Burle Marx (1909 – 1994), was inaugurated in 1970. Also know as Palace of the Arches, it takes both names from its predecessor in Rio de Janeiro. It is famed for its round arches in unfinished concrete, mirrored in the reflecting pool, containing the sculpture Meteor by Bruno Giorgi (1905 – 1993), whose five marble blocks symbolize the continents. »
